Our story…My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADEM…Her symptoms first started on November 9th…first was the stomach pain… then the migraines …vomiting then a fever of 103.2.I took her to the doctor on Wednesday the 11th she was tested for covid and was negative I was told she was suffering from migraines…our first trip to the ER was on Sunday the 15th we were later discharged saying she dehydrated and constipated…later on that evening she became belligerent and was hallucinating…at that point I took her back to the ER She was then admitted to the Hospital on Monday November 16th… They did 2 CT scans 1 on Monday and the 2nd one on Tuesday the 17th they were both clear. It wasn’t until Wednesday the 18th that she was given the MRI and spinal tap…she was declining pretty fast by Wednesday evening she was rushed to the ICU because her temperature and blood pressure dropped… by Thursday she was intubated she became completely unresponsive for about 3 and a half weeks… I was told at one point that I might not bring her home… However she had other plans… she woke up Dec 8th.and by Dec 12th her breathing tube was removed she was off the oxygen… she was talking… moving her arms and legs… on December 12th we were transferred to a children’s rehabilitation where she had to learn how to do everything all over again… within the time we were there she fought her her but off… We came home on New Years Eve… … My question is … since we’ve been discharged I’m noticing she’s scared to drive in the car… is anyone else dealing with this and will it subside…
